Nico has been coordinator and counselor at DJOE since the dark ages. It
would not be possible to imagine a DJOE without him. When the ORDINATOR
project started in 1983, he supported us from the beginning, always
keeping a keen eye on the cost aspects of whatever we were dreaming at
the time. When the ORD-GROUP went to 18th
European Contest for Young Scientists and Inventors in 1986,
he went with us as our guide. After he retired from his coordinator
role in 1992, he was the secretary of the DJOE foundation until 2003;
he is still a board member.
Nico has two children (his wife passed away some years ago) and four
grandchildren. His original profession was teacher at a technical school.
He loves technical things such as electronics, model train building, steam
engines (especially locomotives) but likes to hike also; he is also known
to go fishing on occasion. He is not a big lover of cycling and sports
don't mean much to him. However, computers and their applications do.
Ever since he got a "kajuitzeiljacht" in 1997, he likes to take his dog
Drentha with him to go sailing on the big waters in Zeeland. He retired
in 1999.
Nico worries a bit about the changing mentality of young people. They
expect everything to just come their way, but he feels that
putting in some effort to achieve something leads to much more satisfaction.
You can find a personal account of his time at DJOE in the history of DJOE.
