ORDINATOR second video board

second video board

The second video board of the ORDINATOR was built to generate the video signal for a single display monitor. It is a pure output device that continually encodes the contents of a region of system memory into a video signal. Functionally, the board is identical to the first video board, except for the memory segments that it occupies. Under TS, this board is coupled with the second keyboard and known as the VIDEO1 device.

The second video board was built using the same Teflon wiring system used for most of the other boards, because the recycled wire-wrap sockets used for the first board developed intermittent faults and proved to be cumbersome for maintenance.

When the system was powered on, the video controller was initialized but the screen memory was not, resulting in an interesting display because of the built-in blink function.

The video monitors and keyboards were DJOE-modified versions of Philips P7000 terminals.

The ORDINATOR video boards are also described on page 14 of the book "THE ORDINATOR PROJECT".
