JANOS

JANOS (Jurjen And Niels Operating System) was initially intended as the foundation for what eventually became TS. A first draft of its ideas was documented in the JANOS report, which is in English. JANOS was targeted towards two systems, the ORDINATOR and the JEC (Jurjen's Eigen Computer), both supporting an identical MMU.

You can click on the image below to browse the HTML version of the report automatically generated from the plain text version that was transcribed by Luc early 2004. The original report was hand-typed on a typewriter, there was never a digital original. You can also see the plain text directly.

Some internal differences of opinion caused JANOS to be abandoned, but several of its ideas survived in the concepts of CHAOS.

JANOS was never implemented for the JEC either, because the hardware was never finished.

Niels and Jurjen were very protective of their work, as evidenced by the copyright grant for the DJOE archive below. The document is reproduced here with their permission.
